New Student Orientation

All new students must attend.  The following two weeks have a number of activities planned, and then fall semester begins on August 29.

Welcome to Emory and the Laney Graduate School!  We are pleased that you have chosen Emory and the Laney Graduate School for the next step in your education, and we look forward to welcoming you to our campus in August.

Between now and then, there are a number of important issues for you to attend to. Click on a topic below to get started.

Important Dates

Below are some important dates and information for you to remember as you begin planning your journey at Emory. 

New Student Orientation - August 15

All new students need to attend the LGS Orientation on August 15. This is also where you will pick up your EmoryCard and complete your Form I-9.
  • 8:00am - 12:30pm
  • WHSCAB Auditorium

International Student Orientation - August 15

International students are required to attend International Student orientation on August 15. Visit Emory's International Students and Scholars website for more information about international student enrollment and services.
  • 3pm - 5:30pm (light snacks and beverages available at 2:45pm)
  • WHSCAB Auditorium

... if English is not your first language

You will need to do an English language assessment. Dates vary by program, and you will soon receive information about your testing date. Visit the LGS English Language Support Program to learn more about ESL services at LGS.

JPE 600 - August 20

Most new PhD students will be required to attend the JPE 600 course on August 20. Visit the Jones Program in Ethics pages to learn more about this program.

Access to Enroll - August 28

New students will be able to enroll in classes using OPUS.  In some programs, the Program Administrator will enroll new students the first semester -- always check with your program.

Laney Graduate School Welcome Picnic - August 28

The Welcome Picnic is a great opportunity for you to begin building relationships with other graduate students and with faculty and staff with whom you will work during your graduate studies at Emory. 

New Classes Begin - August 29

Congratulations! Your journey at Emory officially kicks off as the new term gets going!
