LGS Statement on Diversity and Admissions

From the Office of the Dean

On July 3, 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education withdrew seven separate documents providing guidance on the use of race in admissions decisions.

At the Laney Graduate School, we believe that innovation and excellence come from embracing the broadest definitions of diversity and inclusion. Ideas, experiences, and identities based on personal and professional characteristics are required for innovation and excellence. Working together, these facets are essential to the eminence of graduate education at Emory University. The information we have seen on federal guidance will not lead to a change in the Laney Graduate School’s admission processes. The Laney Graduate School’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is unwavering, and we will continue to assess a broad range of student characteristics and take a holistic approach to applications for admission.
