Health Insurance

Emory University requires that all degree-seeking and all international students either have health insurance or purchase the University-sponsored plan.

In order to meet this requirement, you must either choose to enroll in the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan or successfully complete the waiver process.

Please refer to the Student Health Services website for information about the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan for 2017-18. Please refer to Aetna's website for the new Plan Documents and Benefits Guide for 2017-18.

Health Insurance Requirement: Every Student, Every Year

Emory will automatically enroll all new and continuing degree-seeking and international students in the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan, unless the student submits a request to waive out of the University-sponsored plan.

Waiving out of the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan

If you choose to waive out of the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan, you must complete the annual waiver process each year that you are enrolled at Emory. Please visit the Student Health Services website for instructions about the Annual Waiver Process.

For Fall 2017, submit the online Health Insurance Waiver Form in OPUS by August 23, 2017. To appeal a denied waiver or submit a late waiver request, submit the Waiver Appeals Form to Student Health Services by September 15, 2017.

After the waiver is approved, the health insurance premium charge will be cancelled from your OPUS account. View your OPUS Account Detail page to review your account activity.

Enrolling in the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan

If you choose to enroll in the Emory/Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan starting in the Fall semester, the Annual Policy provides 12-months of coverage:

  • International Students: August 1, 2017 – July 31, 2018
