There are many opportunities and resources besides ELSP courses which you can use to improve both your writing and your speaking abilities.
Below are some resources you can use here on campus. Click here for resources beyond Emory.
Writing Resources
Emory Writing Center
The Emory Writing Center maintains a number of resources for both ELSP and non-ELSP specific writing concerns, including information on brainstorming, organization, thesis statements, transitions, and documentation, as well as features a number of helpful grammar exercises.
Newspapers
Reading current events is an excellent way to practice your skills. Our local paper is the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Other papers commonly read include the The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times and USA Today.
Online Writing Labs
The Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) features a wide variety of materials for writing practice such as grammar handouts for ESL students.
Listening/Speaking Resources
Go to our on-line Blackboard courses to search for class exercises and materials.
Practice your listening skills with National Public Radio, or go directly to NPR's talk program, All Things Considered.
Search for an online radio station.
Listen to the featured speeches of world history through the History Channel.
