New Thinkers/New Leaders

The Graduate School Matching Fund

The New Thinkers/New Leaders Fund is a program in the Graduate School designed to promote interdisciplinary innovation, intellectual enrichment, creative explorations in pedagogy and career pathways, and improvement to the climate and quality of graduate education.

The Graduate School invites graduate programs and cross-disciplinary programs of the University to submit applications for matching funds to support scholarly activities that

  • enrich the mentoring experience of graduate students;
  • foster cross-disciplinary investigation of complex intellectual problems that enhance the intensity of intellectual exchange, among faculty, among graduate students, and between faculty and graduate students;
  • engage problems of theory and method related to practice and action;
  • pilot innovative approaches to doctoral education, degree completion and/or graduate student professionalization; and
  • develop innovative graduate programming to address the changing needs of graduate students as they prepare for a workplace that is increasingly defined by interdisciplinary, international, and comparative perspectives.

The Graduate School will provide matching funds to successful proposals. We anticipate that most awards will be $5,000 or less.  Applicants must demonstrate commitment from another funding source at time of the request.

Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis and should include a brief description of project goals and activities, list of potential participants, and observable outcomes.

Proposals that demonstrate genuine cross-program collaboration in development and planned implementation are especially encouraged. Proposals may be submitted by any tenure-track faculty member in any department or program at Emory, even if that program does not offer a degree in the Graduate School.
